It’s amazing what you can do with a laptop, a dream and your next-door neighbour. Since I first heard their single ‘More’ awhile back, I haven’t been able to erase Lismore’s catchy disco slammer from my mind. Imagine the delight when I finally got around to checking out what else they had to offer and realised the rest of their stuff is of equal, if not better, caliber.

While on a very long bus trip through the middle of nowhere recently I was able to harass my fellow travellers into telling me what kind of music was getting a spin in their corner of the world. Perhaps the greatest discovery from this inquisition was that of Dragonette, a female-fronted power-vocal band making serious waves in Canada right now. Swinging from electro-pop to rockabilly and back again with consistent quality and ease, it’s not hard to see why.
